Celebrating Our Past, Investing In Our Future
On April 16, 2004 a 75th Anniversary kick-off reception for past and present members and community partners was held at the Community Arts Center Patrons Lounge. Invitations were sent to past and present members along with anyone we had partnerships with, had given community opportunity grants to, and also business that have sponsored our Leaglet or donated items to our auction. From 5:30 to 7:30 PM guests convened for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres made from recipes found in the Junior League cookbook, Victorian Thymes & Pleasures. The intention of the evening was to thank everyone who has been involved or supported the Junior League of Williamsport.
The day before at Williamsport's City Council meeting, the Junior League was presented with a proclamation, by the Mayor of Williamsport, in recognition of our 75 years of service to the community. The League was also awarded a Children's Empowerment Award at a Muncy “Kids day America/International” event. This will be an entire year of different activities, with different spotlights to highlight our partnership with community organizations over the past 75 years. We will continue to spotlight our history during upcoming events throughout the 2004-2005 League year.
For decades, the women of the Lycoming Valley have been volunteering their time, creativity, and leadership to the growth and support of needs. Chances are if you look on any community board – you'll see a member of the Junior League.
Without the devotion and generosity of our volunteers and supporters, there would be a gaping hole in the community fabric. The influence of the Junior League is omnipresent, and the dedicated fingers of our members knot together the underlying webbing that binds the community. We are “Women building better communities” and we can't be stopped!
